A3 Christmas Happening@ the Hope (upstairs, ex-Polar)06 December 2005A complete sellout - one in/one out from before 9 o clock! Performing live for your listening pleasure were FIVE live acts - including... the return of October's amazing beatboxing-through-a-flute, Brazilian percussion playing, fretless bass and un-nameable Latin instruments group, who played new music for the night. This was a more considered, chilled out performance. Our full live band this month was Toby Radcliffe's, with drums, guitar, bass and keys - we and his fan club all went home singing the songs. Richard English was completely not a laptop artist, despite what we wrote before. He ran a set of exotic sound making modules, and made the most delicious sound - we very much expect a track from this to appear in Mood Lounge Volume 2. If his system hadn't crashed at the end of the last song, we wouldn't have wanted him to stop, which means we might not have heard the rather special operatic tones of... Agni, from Greece, who did a short 3 song set with her clear, strong voice. Operatic and dramatic - this was another departure for us, but completely in keeping with our policy to keep it interesting and surprising. Xanthus, on his third set for A3, showed a new dimension in his music on the final set. Half way between Eat Static and Jean-Michel Jarre, Xanthus went from chilled to throbbing dance tracks. DJ Chalky played tracks from the forthcoming Mood Lounge 2 in the tiny gaps between live music.
