@ The Rest

21 November 2007

Wednesday the 21st November

This month featured a LIVE intelligent jazzy drum&bass act "Droptear Modelmaker", featuring trumpet and live drums, Jump Up DnB from the TwoToes/Resin8 crew, a solo set from Boc (out of the previous month's triumphant Boc and Crosis pairing) plus all other kinds of laptop jockeys, knob twiddlers, fader-riding synthmeisters, DJs, MCs, beatfreaks etc.

All new artists, all new music. PA by the Northbrook system

As last month, where I turned my head around in the flashing, swirling lights to see hordes of people grinning, cheering, dancing to this electronic, pulsing sound so far beyond what I could accurately describe, I had to pinch myself and say; "This is Worthing on a Wednesday at 8.30pm, and I feel like I'm in the best rave in the world!"

Immediately after the groundbreaking "Doom and Bass" of Boc and Crosis, the Sickness Legion delivered the slickest and most tuneful R&B set you'll see this side of Detroit - but it was English, and it was African, and it completely rocked. Followed by Madonna in Yorkshire and the 2 Toes boys among others, you won't get anything else like this, in Brighton or elsewhere. The reason for this unlikeliness is the scary amount of talent at Northbrook's Music Department, all coming out to impress each other. In twenty years time, thousands of 30somethings will swear blind that they were at this gig, but you and I will recognise each other, and know the truth.
See you there.
